PRC Language & Assistive Technology Products

UI Design

Overview

PRC is a pioneer in the field of assistive technology and augmentative communication. They manufacture a broad range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, as well as the communication tools that run on them.

Individuals who rely on these devices to communicate cannot set them up themselves, so PRC works directly with caregivers, such as Speech Language Pathologists, to give them the tools and training necessary to program and customize the AAC devices for their patients.

Since Caregivers play such an integral role in the success of their products, PRC wanted to better understand any opportunities to improve the toolbox experience.

Working with Iteration Group, a UX design consulting firm, my colleagues Christine Whittle and Courtney Laffey lead the research effort to learn how caregivers use the toolbox in real world situations, and the challenges they faced using the product.

My role as UI designer was to translate their findings into an intuitive, accessible interface, and provide PRC with design standards to assist them in building the software.
